Early Life and Music Beginnings
Donald XL Robertson grew up in New Orleans, a city famous for its music. He was surrounded by soul, funk, and jazz music from a young age. His parents introduced him to hip hop music. They brought home "Rapper's Delight" by The Sugarhill Gang.
XL's first rap name was DJ Jazzy D. Later, he changed it to XL. He joined Big Boogie to form a rap group called Strictly Business. He chose the name XL because he believes in doing everything "Xtra Large."
