Sir Robert Donald Scott (born November 13, 1901 – died June 18, 1974) was a British politician. He was a member of the Conservative Party.

Early Life and Education

Robert Donald Scott was born in 1901. His father, William Scott, was a timber importer from Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Robert went to Mill Hill School and later studied at Magdalene College, Cambridge. In 1926, his father bought him a farm called Caistron in Thropton, Northumberland. Robert then became a farmer.

Political Career

Robert Scott became a Member of Parliament (MP). An MP is someone elected to represent people in the UK Parliament. He was first elected for the area of Wansbeck in 1940. This happened during a special election called a by-election. He was the only candidate, so he won without anyone running against him.

However, in the general election of 1945, he lost his seat. He was defeated by Alf Robens from the Labour Party.

For a short time, from May to July 1945, Robert Scott worked as a Parliamentary Secretary. This role meant he helped the government with matters related to farming and fishing.

In the 1950 general election, he was elected to Parliament again. This time, he represented a new area called Penrith and The Border. He was re-elected for this area in the 1951 election.

Robert Scott decided not to run for election in 1955. He was replaced by William Whitelaw, who later became a very important politician. In 1955, Robert Scott was given the title of Knight, which means he was called "Sir Robert Scott."

Family Life

Robert Scott married Olive Anna Daphne. Her father was J. J. Russell, from Ballygasson House in County Louth. Robert and Olive had two daughters. Their names were Ellenora Maureen Russell Scott and Rachel Mirabel Steel Scott.
