A Home with History

Who Lived Here?

Dr. Donald Delance Irish was born in 1905. He started working at Dow Chemical Company in 1934. Dr. Irish became a very well-known scientist who studied how chemicals affect health. He helped create the Health and Environmental Science Department at Dow Chemical.

Building the House

In 1937, Dr. Irish and some friends bought land to build homes. By 1941, they started selling lots. That same year, Dr. Irish hired the famous architect Alden B. Dow to design his family's house. The Alden B. Dow Building Company then built the home. Dr. Donald Clark Irish passed away in 1987. His wife, Louise Clark Irish, passed away later, and the house was sold in 1992.

What Does the House Look Like?

The Donald and Louise Clark Irish House has two stories. It is built using different materials like brick, stucco, wood, and glass. The outside of the house has many interesting shapes and angles.

The house is set far back from the street. A driveway leads to the house, and a low brick wall separates it from a patio area. The roof has a unique, uneven shape. One part of the roof even has a smaller roof on top, making it look like steps. The main entrance is tucked away in the middle of the front of the house, protected by the roof that hangs over it. Next to the entrance, you can see the garage and a glass section that sticks out.
