Donatella Danielli was born in 1966. She is a mathematics professor at Arizona State University. She is well-known for her work in different areas of mathematics. These include partial differential equations, calculus of variations, and geometric measure theory. She especially focuses on something called free boundary problems. These are math problems where part of the problem's boundary is unknown and needs to be figured out.

Donatella Danielli's Career

Donatella Danielli earned her first university degree in Mathematics in 1989. She received it with high honors, called "cum Laude," from the University of Bologna in Italy. Later, in 1999, she completed her advanced degree, a doctorate (also known as a PhD), at Purdue University. Her main teacher and guide for her doctorate was Carlos Kenig.

Before she became a professor at Purdue University in 2001, she worked at other important places. She held positions at The Johns Hopkins University and at the Institut Mittag-Leffler in Sweden. She also visited the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences in 2014 as a special researcher.

Professor Danielli is also involved in helping other mathematicians. She is a member of the Executive Committee for the Association for Women in Mathematics. This group works to support women in the field of mathematics.

Awards and Honors

Donatella Danielli has received several important awards for her work in mathematics:

  • National Science Foundation CAREER Award (2003): This award is given to young scientists and engineers who show great promise in their research and teaching.
  • Simons Fellow in Mathematics (2014): This fellowship supports outstanding mathematicians so they can focus on their research.
  • Fellow of the American Mathematical Society (since 2017): Being a "Fellow" means she is recognized for her important contributions to math. She was honored for her work on partial differential equations and geometric measure theory, and for helping the math community.
  • Fellow of the Association for Women in Mathematics (since 2020): She became a Fellow for her strong support and impact on many efforts to encourage women in mathematics at all levels. This award also recognized her as a role model for younger mathematicians, especially women.
