Donnie R. Sellers Sr. was born on November 20, 1944, in Norwalk, Connecticut. He is a former member of the Connecticut House of Representatives. He represented the 140th assembly district of Norwalk, Connecticut. Mr. Sellers was part of the Democratic Party. He also served on the Norwalk Common Council and worked as a police officer. He left his position in the House of Representatives in February 1997.

Early Life and Education

Donnie R. Sellers Sr. studied at the University of New Haven. He earned a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in political science. This field of study focuses on how governments work.

Joining the Police Force

In 1966, Mr. Sellers joined the Norwalk Police Department. He served as a police officer, helping to keep his community safe. Since 1972, he has also been a member of the United States Army Reserves.

Political Journey

Donnie R. Sellers Sr. made history in Norwalk politics. In 1989, he became the first person to win his district by collecting signatures from citizens. He was also the first police officer to serve on the Norwalk Common Council. This council helps manage the city of Norwalk.

Serving in the State House

In January 1993, Mr. Sellers won a special election to join the Connecticut House of Representatives. A special election happens when a seat becomes empty before the regular election. He won against Eleni Sotiriou, a Republican candidate. He had support from both the Democratic Party and A Connecticut Party.

The special election was held because the previous representative, Doug Mintz, became a judge. Mr. Sellers was re-elected to the Connecticut House on November 8, 1994. He won against Fabian Vega, another Republican challenger.

Later Political Efforts

After leaving office in 1997, Mr. Sellers tried to return to politics. In 1998, he attempted to get his seat back in the Connecticut House. He also tried to rejoin the Norwalk Common Council. Later, in 2002, he ran in a primary election but was not successful.
