Donnie R. Sellers Sr. studied at the University of New Haven. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in political science. In 1966, he joined the Norwalk Police Department. He also became a member of the United States Army Reserves in 1972.
Serving the Community
In 1989, Donnie R. Sellers Sr. made history. He was the first person to win a seat on the Norwalk Common Council by collecting signatures from citizens. He was also the first police officer to serve on this council. The Common Council is a group that helps manage the city of Norwalk.
In January 1993, he was elected to the Connecticut House of Representatives. This is a part of the state government that makes laws for Connecticut. He won a special election by a large margin. He had support from both the Democratic Party and A Connecticut Party. This election happened because the previous representative, Doug Mintz, became a judge.
Donnie R. Sellers Sr. was re-elected to the Connecticut House in November 1994. He continued to serve his district. He left his position in 1997.
