Donny Marshall's Basketball Journey

High School and College Success

Donny was a star athlete in high school. He led his basketball team to more than 100 wins. For four years in a row, he was named to Washington's All-State team for basketball. He also achieved this honor four times as a soccer player!

After high school, Donny chose to play for the University of Connecticut Huskies team. He played all four years there. He helped the Huskies reach the postseason in his last three years as a co-captain. In his senior year, he was named to the NCAA All-Tournament team. He averaged over 24 points per game during the tournament. Later, Donny was chosen for UConn's All-Century team. This team features the top 25 players in the school's history. He was also a two-time All-Big East Team member. He led the Big East conference in free throw shooting during his senior year.

Joining the NBA and Professional Play

In 1995, Donny was picked by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the second round of the 1995 NBA draft. He played six seasons in the NBA. He played for the Cavaliers, the Milwaukee Bucks, and the New Jersey Nets. With the Nets, Donny reached the NBA Finals two years in a row, in 2002 and 2003.

Before and during some of his NBA years, Donny also played for the Connecticut Pride team. This team was part of the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). He played for them from 1999 to 2001. In 2000, he was selected for the All-CBA Second Team.

Life After Playing Basketball

A Career in Sports Broadcasting

After his playing career, Donny moved into television. He has been a sports broadcaster for over 19 years. During this time, he has covered more than 1,300 professional and college basketball games.

For eight years, he worked for the Boston Celtics. He was a commentator and studio analyst for their games on Comcast SportsNet. He covered over 650 NBA games for them. Donny also worked as a commentator for college basketball games on NBC Sports Network. He even provided commentary for NBC during the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. From 2013 to 2017, he covered games from the sidelines for the Brooklyn Nets. Currently, he is a college basketball analyst for FOX Sports. He also provides analysis for WestwoodOne national radio broadcasts. He does this during the men's NCAA championship basketball tournament every spring.

Giving Back to the Community

Donny is very involved in community service. He used to own a golf course in his home state of Connecticut. He has strong ties to community work in New England.

He once served on the Board of Trustees at the University of Connecticut, his old college. He is also a member of the Board of Directors for the First Tee of Connecticut. This group helps children in Connecticut. They offer exposure, teaching, and scholarships through the game of golf. Donny is also a spokesperson against bullying.
