Becoming an Engineer
Dora Elia Musielak studied really hard to become an engineer. In 1978, she earned her first degree in aeronautical engineering from a school in Mexico called the Instituto Politécnico Nacional. She was the very first woman to get this degree from that school!
She continued her studies in the United States. She earned a master's degree from the University of Tennessee in 1980. Later, in 1994, she received her Ph.D. from the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
Working as an Engineer
Dr. Musielak has worked for several big companies. These include Northrop Grumman, MSE Technology Applications, and ATK Allied Techsystems. From 2014 to 2016, she led a special committee. This committee was for the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. They focused on high-speed air-breathing engines.

Books About Sophie Germain
One of her most famous books is Sophie's Diary: A Mathematical Novel. This book is a historical novel. It tells a story based on the life of a famous mathematician named Sophie Germain. Dr. Musielak first published this book in 2004. It was so popular that the Mathematical Association of America republished it in 2012.
She also wrote a biography about Sophie Germain. A biography is a book about someone's life. This book was called Prime Mystery: The Life and Mathematics of Sophie Germain (2015). Later, it was updated and republished by Springer in 2020. The new title is Sophie Germain: Revolutionary Mathematician.
