Dorian Lawrence Finney-Smith (born May 4, 1993) is an American professional basketball player. He plays for the Los Angeles Lakers in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Before joining the Lakers, he played for the Dallas Mavericks and the Brooklyn Nets. He also played college basketball for Virginia Tech and Florida.

High School Basketball Star
Dorian Finney-Smith went to I. C. Norcom High School in Portsmouth, Virginia. In his junior year (2009–10), he was amazing on the court. He averaged almost 20 points and 13 rebounds per game. He also had many assists, steals, and blocks.
In September 2010, Dorian decided to play college basketball at Virginia Tech. He officially signed with them in December. As a senior, he led his high school team to win two state championships in a row. He was named the VHSL Class AAA Player of the Year twice. He also earned many other awards for his great playing.
College Basketball Journey
Dorian started his college career at Virginia Tech in 2011–12. As a freshman, he played in almost all games and started most of them. He averaged 6.3 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. He was even named to the ACC All-Freshman Team.
In June 2012, Dorian moved to Florida. He had to sit out the 2012–13 season. This was due to NCAA rules for players who transfer schools.
As a sophomore in 2013–14, Dorian was named the SEC Sixth Man of the Year. This award goes to a key player who usually comes off the bench. He was Florida's best rebounder that year. He also scored a personal best of 22 points in one game.
In his junior year (2014–15), coaches named him to the second-team All-SEC. He was Florida's top scorer and rebounder. He also shot very well from three-point range. He scored a career-high 25 points in a game against Jacksonville.
As a senior in 2015–16, Dorian was again named second-team All-SEC. He was Florida's leading scorer for the second year. He was also their top rebounder for the third year in a row. He became the first Florida player to score over 1,000 points after transferring to the school.
Professional Basketball Career
Dallas Mavericks (2016–2023)
Dorian was not chosen in the 2016 NBA draft. However, the Dallas Mavericks signed him in July 2016. He impressed the team during training camp. He earned a spot on the opening-night roster. He quickly became an important player for the Mavericks.
In his early years, Dorian showed his skills. He scored career highs in points and rebounds. He even returned to play after missing many games due to a knee injury. By 2019, he re-signed with the Mavericks for a new contract. He became a regular starter for the team.
Dorian continued to improve. In 2020, he scored a career-high 27 points in a game. He also grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds in another game. The Mavericks made it to the playoffs for the first time since 2016. Dorian made his playoff debut, showing he could perform in big games.
In 2021, he had a season-high 23 points. He helped the Mavericks reach the playoffs again. In 2022, Dorian signed a big contract extension with the Mavericks. He scored a career-high 28 points in March. He also had a playoff career-high 24 points in a game against the Phoenix Suns. The Mavericks made it all the way to the Western Conference Finals that year.
Brooklyn Nets (2023–2024)
In February 2023, Dorian was traded to the Brooklyn Nets. This trade was part of a bigger deal involving star player Kyrie Irving. He played for the Nets for about a year.
Los Angeles Lakers (2024–present)
In December 2024, Dorian was traded again. He joined the Los Angeles Lakers. He is now playing for this famous team.
