Dorie S. Murrey (born September 7, 1943) is a former American professional basketball player. He played as a forward and was 6 feet 8 inches tall. Dorie played college basketball at the University of Detroit Mercy. He then played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1966 to 1972.
Dorie Murrey was chosen by the Detroit Pistons in the 1966 NBA draft. This was special because the Pistons were his hometown team. He was the 12th player picked in the second round.

Joining New Teams
Dorie Murrey was part of two special NBA events called expansion drafts. These drafts happen when new teams join the league. Existing teams make some players available for the new teams to pick.
In 1967, the Pistons made Dorie available. He was then chosen by the new team, the Seattle SuperSonics. Later, in 1970, the SuperSonics made him available. He was then picked by another new team, the Portland Trail Blazers.
Moving to Baltimore
Dorie's time with the Portland Trail Blazers was short. Just three games into the 1970–71 season, he was traded. On October 10, 1970, the Trail Blazers traded him to the Baltimore Bullets. In return, the Trail Blazers received a draft pick for the 1971 NBA draft.
