Doris Grau (born October 12, 1924 – died December 30, 1995) was an American actress and a script supervisor. She was from Brooklyn, New York.

When she was a teenager, she moved to Hollywood in 1940. There, she started working as a script supervisor for movies and TV shows. She kept this job until the 1990s. She helped make famous movies like Point Blank and King Kong. She also worked on TV shows like Cheers and The Tracey Ullman Show. Later in her life, Doris also became an actress. She acted in live-action roles and lent her voice to animated characters. She was a script supervisor for the popular cartoon show The Simpsons. She also voiced characters on the show, including the well-known Lunchlady Doris.

Doris Grau was born on October 12, 1924, in Brooklyn, New York. When she was 16, in 1940, she moved to Hollywood in Los Angeles, California. Soon after, she got a job as a script supervisor for a movie company called Columbia Pictures.

Doris Grau's Career in Film and TV

Doris Grau worked as a script supervisor for many years. This job means she made sure that movie and TV show scripts were followed correctly. She worked on the 1967 crime movie Point Blank. This film is about a man named Walker who tries to find his friend who betrayed him during a robbery.

She was also the script supervisor for the 1976 remake of King Kong. This movie is about a giant ape. She also worked on other movies like The Champ (1979) and Clue (1985). In the 1980s, she supervised scripts for TV movies too. These included The Shadow Riders (1983).

Acting Roles

In 1986, Doris Grau started acting. She appeared in the TV series All Is Forgiven. From 1986 to 1987, she played a character named Corinne in a few episodes of the TV show Cheers. She had actually worked on Cheers before as a script supervisor.

Grau also worked as a script supervisor for The Tracey Ullman Show (1987–1990). This show was important because it was where the animated Simpson family first appeared. This family later got their own cartoon show, The Simpsons, in 1989. Doris Grau became a script supervisor for The Simpsons too.

She also lent her voice to several characters on The Simpsons. She is most famous for being the voice of Lunchlady Doris. This character has a "gruff voice," which means it sounds a bit rough. Lunchlady Doris appeared on the show with Grau's voice from 1991 to 1997.

Because some Simpsons episodes are made a long time before they are shown, Doris Grau's last voice appearance was in the episode "Lisa's Sax". This episode aired on October 19, 1997.

After her death, the character Lunchlady Doris was not used on The Simpsons for a while. This was done out of respect for Doris Grau. However, the character returned to the show in 2006. She was voiced by a different actress, Tress MacNeille, and was sometimes called Lunchlady Dora.
