Capture and Punishment
Towards the end of World War II, Dorothea Binz tried to escape from Ravensbrück. She was caught by British forces on May 3, 1945, in a city called Hamburg. After her capture, she was held in a camp.
Later, in 1947, she faced a trial. This trial was held by a British court. She was tried along with other people who had worked for the Nazi government. The court looked at her actions during the war.
Dorothea Binz was found responsible for her actions. The court decided she deserved the most severe punishment. She was punished by hanging at Hamelin Prison on May 2, 1947. A British executioner named Albert Pierrepoint carried out the punishment.
