Its Location and History
The area where Dorseyville is found was once very important for travel. It was located along a special path called a "rolling road." These roads were used long ago to move heavy barrels of tobacco. Farmers would roll their tobacco barrels along these paths to markets or ports.
The Rolling Road Connection
The rolling road at Dorseyville had a fork, like a split in a path. One branch of this road led towards Annapolis. Annapolis was, and still is, the capital city of Maryland. The other branch went towards a place called Tridelphia, Maryland. This made Dorseyville a key point for people traveling and trading.
Dorsey's Mill Dam
A notable feature in Dorseyville's past was Dorsey's Mill Dam. This was a stone dam built on the Cattail Creek. Dams like this were often used to power mills, which ground grain into flour. Sadly, Dorsey's Mill Dam was eventually washed away. However, it remains a part of the area's history.
