Douglas Peter Savant, born on June 21, 1964, is an American actor. He is well-known for playing Matt Fielding in the TV show Melrose Place from 1992 to 1997. He also played Tom Scavo in the comedy-drama Desperate Housewives from 2004 to 2012. You might also remember him as Sgt. O'Neal in the 1998 movie Godzilla.

Doug Savant's Early Life
Doug Savant grew up in Burbank, California. He started attending the University of California, Los Angeles. However, he decided to leave college early to start his acting career.
Doug Savant's Acting Career
Doug Savant began his acting journey in the mid-1980s. He appeared in teen comedy movies like Secret Admirer and Teen Wolf in 1985. The next year, he was in the horror film Trick or Treat.
From 1986 to 1987, he had a repeating role in the TV show Knots Landing. He played a younger version of the character Mac McKenzie.
Becoming a TV Star: Melrose Place
From 1992 to 1997, Savant became famous for his role as Matt Fielding in Melrose Place. This character was one of the first openly gay main characters on a TV series. Some parts of his role were changed by the network. Savant left the show after five seasons. His character was later written out of the show.
In 1998, he appeared in the monster movie Godzilla as Sgt. O'Neal. After Melrose Place, he also had guest roles on many other TV shows. These included The Outer Limits, Firefly, and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. In 2004, he had a four-episode part in the show 24.
Desperate Housewives and Beyond
In 2004, Savant got another big role as Tom Scavo in Desperate Housewives. In the first season, his character was a recurring guest. But because viewers really liked him, he became a main character from the second season onwards. Tom was married to Lynette Scavo, played by Felicity Huffman. Their characters were seen as a very stable couple on the show.
Desperate Housewives finished in 2012. After that, Savant continued to act in many popular TV shows. He had guest roles in shows like Hot in Cleveland, Criminal Minds, 9-1-1, and NCIS. He has continued acting in various TV series up to 2021, including Dirty John and The Rookie.
Doug Savant's Family Life
In May 1998, Doug Savant married his Melrose Place co-star, Laura Leighton. They have two children together: Jack, born in 2000, and Lucy, born in 2005. Doug also has two older children from a previous marriage, Arianna and Madeline, whom Laura helped raise.
