Felicity Kendall Huffman (born December 9, 1962) is an American actress. She is well-known for her role as Lynette Scavo in the TV show Desperate Housewives. She also played Sabrina "Bree" Osbourne in the movie Transamerica (2005). Felicity has won many awards, including a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award. She was also nominated for an Academy Award.
Felicity Huffman started her acting career in theatre. In the 1990s, she also had many smaller roles in movies and on television. She starred as Dana Whitaker in the ABC show Sports Night from 1998 to 2000. This role earned her a Golden Globe Award nomination. Her role as Lynette Scavo in Desperate Housewives (2004–2012) brought her a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. She also won three Screen Actors Guild Awards for this role.

Early Life and Education
Felicity Huffman was born in Bedford, New York. Her parents, Grace Valle and Moore Peters Huffman, divorced when she was one year old. She was raised by both of them. When she was a teenager, she found out her biological father was a family friend named Roger Tallman Maher. She has six sisters and one brother. In the 1970s, her mother moved to Snowmass, Colorado. Felicity and her siblings spent their childhood there.
Huffman went to The Putney School, a private high school in Putney, Vermont. She graduated from Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan in 1981. She later studied at New York University, Circle in the Square Theatre School, and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, England.
Acting Career
Starting Out in Theatre and TV
Felicity Huffman first appeared on stage in 1982. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, she mostly worked in theatre plays. In 1988, she made her debut on Broadway in the play Speed the Plow. In 1995, she won an Obie Award for her role in the play The Cryptogram. She also starred in the play Boston Marriage in 1999.
Huffman's first movie role was a small part in Things Change in 1988. Two years later, she played Minnie in the movie Reversal of Fortune. She also appeared in the thriller Quicksand: No Escape (1992). Other early movie roles include Hackers (1995) and The Spanish Prisoner (1997).
On television, Huffman starred in the mini-series Golden Years in 1991. She also had guest roles on popular shows like The X-Files, Early Edition, and Law & Order. From 1998 to 2000, she played Dana Whitaker in the series Sports Night. This role earned her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy nomination.
After Sports Night ended, she had her first child. In 2002, she played Lady Bird Johnson in the HBO movie Path to War. She also had roles in Raising Helen (2004) and Christmas with the Kranks (2004).
Desperate Housewives and Transamerica Success

After a role on the sitcom Frasier, Huffman got a main role in the ABC comedy series Desperate Housewives. She starred alongside Marcia Cross, Teri Hatcher, and Eva Longoria. In 2005, Huffman won an Emmy Award for her role as Lynette Scavo. She also won two 2006 Screen Actors Guild Awards in 2006. The series ran for eight seasons and ended in May 2012.
In 2005, Huffman starred in the movie Transamerica. She played Bree, a woman who was about to have surgery when she found out she had a son. Her performance in Transamerica was highly praised. She won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress - Motion Picture Drama. She was also nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actress - Motion Picture and an Academy Award for Best Actress.
In 2007, Huffman appeared in Georgia Rule with Jane Fonda and Lindsay Lohan. In 2008, she starred in the movie Phoebe in Wonderland.
Recent Work and American Crime
After Desperate Housewives, Felicity Huffman wanted roles that were very different. In 2012, she appeared in the movie Trust Me. She also starred in the independent drama Rudderless (2014). In 2014, she was in the adventure film Big Game with Samuel L. Jackson. She also appeared in Cake alongside Jennifer Aniston.
In 2014, Huffman was chosen to play the lead in the ABC drama American Crime. The show started in March 2015. Huffman received excellent reviews for her acting in this series. Robert Bianco from USA Today praised her performance. He said she was "one of the best actors we have." For American Crime, she played different characters each season.
In 2017, Huffman lent her voice to the animated series BoJack Horseman. In 2018, she starred in the second season of the comedy-drama Get Shorty. In 2019, Huffman appeared in two Netflix projects. These were the miniseries When They See Us and the comedy-drama film Otherhood. She also starred in the drama film Tammy's Always Dying in 2019.
In March 2023, Huffman appeared in an episode of The Good Doctor. She played a lawyer named Janet Stewart. She was supposed to play this role again in a spin-off show, but it was canceled. In 2025, she played Rena Chynoweth in a limited series called The Thirteenth Wife: Escaping Polygamy.
Personal Life
Felicity Huffman dated actor William H. Macy for 15 years before they got married on September 6, 1997. They have two daughters, Sophia and Georgia. She has worked with her husband many times in TV shows, movies, and plays. Both Felicity and William received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on March 7, 2012.
In 2012, Huffman started a website called What The Flicka. It was for women and mothers, and she wrote for it regularly. Felicity Huffman supports the Democratic Party. She has donated to political campaigns. She has been a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences since 2006.
