Dougy is a young adult novel written by James Moloney. It was first published in 1993 by University of Queensland Press. This book is the first part of The Gracey Trilogy. It was followed by Gracey (1994) and Angela (1998).
In 1994, Dougy was recognized as an Honour Book in the Older Readers category at the Children's Book Council of Australia Awards. James Moloney was inspired to write the novel after teaching in outback Queensland for two years. He observed the lives of Aboriginal children and the challenges they faced. He also saw the strong family bonds and the difficulties caused by existing attitudes in the wider community. The book is dedicated to Douglas Collins, a student who inspired Moloney.
