James "Jim" Moloney (born 20 September 1954) is an Australian author who writes books for children and teenagers. He has written many books for young people aged seven to seventeen. He is especially famous for his young adult novels, which are stories for teenagers.

Mr. Moloney's books have won and been nominated for many awards. These include the Children's Book Council of Australia Awards. His stories are popular around the world. They have been translated into languages like French, Korean, Lithuanian, and Dutch.

Early Life and Career

James Moloney was born in Sydney, Australia. He grew up in Brisbane, where he still lives today. He shares his home with his wife, Kate, who used to be a teacher-librarian.

He first trained to be a teacher at Griffith University. He also earned diplomas in Teacher-Librarianship and Computer Education. Being a teacher-librarian helped him discover his love for children's literature. This interest soon led him to start writing his own books.

His first book, Crossfire, was published in 1992. He has continued to write and publish new books ever since. In 1998, he stopped teaching at Marist College Ashgrove. Now, he writes full-time from a small building in his backyard. His family lovingly calls this special writing space 'Dad's Shed'.
