The Sweet Story of Doumak Marshmallows

Doumak Inc. began making marshmallows way back in 1921. At first, they made them in Los Angeles, California. These early marshmallows were made in molds.

A Big Invention

In 1954, Alex Doumak came up with a super smart idea. He invented a new way to make marshmallows called the "extrusion process." He even got a patent for it, which means he officially owned the idea. This new method was a huge step forward! It allowed marshmallows to be made much faster and cheaper.

Before this invention, marshmallows were quite expensive. They were a special treat. But thanks to Alex Doumak's new process, marshmallows became an everyday sweet. They also became a favorite ingredient for many yummy recipes.

Moving and Growing

In 1961, the Doumak family moved their company. They set up their main factory outside Chicago, Illinois. This is where the company is still located today.

Doumak Inc. kept growing over the years. In 2003, they bought another well-known marshmallow brand called Campfire. To make even more marshmallows, Doumak opened a second factory. This new factory is also located in the Chicago area.
