The Dove was a cool steamboat built way back in 1889 in Portland, Oregon. She was powered by a steam engine and used a propeller to move through the water. When she was first launched, her name was Typhoon.

This ship was an important part of the "Puget Sound Mosquito Fleet". This was a nickname for the many small steamboats that carried people and goods around the Puget Sound area in Washington state. The Dove also spent some time working on Grays Harbor, another busy waterway. Later in her life, she was changed into a tugboat, which is a powerful boat used to pull other ships.

The Dove was built in 1889 in Portland, Oregon. She was originally meant to be a ferry, carrying people and things across the water. Her first owner was J.B. Montgomery, and she was launched with the name Typhoon.

Her Journeys and New Name

In 1891, J.B. Montgomery sold Typhoon to George Emerson. George then sold her to C.O. Lorenz, who brought the steamboat to Puget Sound. There, she started a new job, traveling between Tacoma and Henderson Bay.

A few years later, in 1903, a famous steamboat captain named Matthew McDowell bought the ship. He made some big changes to her. After these upgrades, he gave her a new name: the Dove. She then started a new route, connecting Seattle, Tacoma, and East Pass.

What Happened Later?

Around 1916, Captain McDowell sold the Dove to a company called Washington Tug & Barge Co. in Seattle. From that point on, the Dove stopped carrying passengers and cargo. Instead, she became a tugboat, using her strength to help other ships move around harbors and through narrow channels.
