History of the Museum
How the Museum Started
The idea for the museum began in 2014. William R. Harvey and his family gave a large gift of $1.3 million to Talladega College. This money helped create the art museum. It was named in honor of Dr. Harvey.
Building the Museum
Work on the museum building started in November 2017. The State of Alabama also helped a lot. Governor Kay Ivey led the state in donating $1.5 million. This money helped pay for the construction.
Grand Opening
The Dr. William R. Harvey Museum of Art officially opened its doors on February 3, 2020. A special ribbon-cutting ceremony was held. Dr. Harvey himself was there, along with Billy C. Hawkins. Mr. Hawkins is the president of Talladega College.
