DreamWorks Pictures is a well-known American company that makes movies. It's also called DreamWorks SKG or DreamWorks Studios. It is part of a larger company called Amblin Partners.
DreamWorks Pictures was started in 1994 by three famous people: Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and David Geffen. Their last names' first letters (S, K, G) gave the company one of its nicknames, DreamWorks SKG. They owned most of the company when it began.

How DreamWorks Grew
Early Years and Big Movies
When DreamWorks Pictures first started, it released its own movies. It also helped distribute films made by other companies. Many of the movies it produced or distributed earned more than $100 million at the box office. This means they were very popular and made a lot of money!
Changes in Ownership and Partnerships
In 2005, the founders decided to sell DreamWorks Pictures to a company called Viacom. Viacom also owns Paramount Pictures. The sale was completed in 2006.
A few years later, in 2008, DreamWorks decided to become independent again. It ended its partnership with Paramount. DreamWorks then made a big deal with an Indian company, Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group, to help produce new movies.
New Distribution Deals
In 2009, DreamWorks made a deal with Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. Disney helped distribute DreamWorks films through its Touchstone Pictures label. This partnership lasted until 2016.
Since October 2016, movies from DreamWorks Pictures have been released and promoted by Universal Pictures. Today, DreamWorks Pictures has its offices at Universal Studios Hollywood.
DreamWorks Animation
You might know about DreamWorks Animation from movies like Shrek or How to Train Your Dragon. This animation studio used to be part of DreamWorks Pictures. However, it became a separate company in 2004.
Now, DreamWorks Animation is owned by NBCUniversal. Even though they are separate, DreamWorks Pictures still uses the DreamWorks name and logos. They have permission to do this from DreamWorks Animation.
