Poison Elves

Lawrence Andrew "Drew" Hayes (born July 20, 1969 – died March 21, 2007) was a talented writer and comic book artist. He is most famous for creating the popular independent comic book series called Poison Elves.

The Life of Drew Hayes

Drew Hayes was inspired by fantasy games like Dungeons & Dragons and comic books such as Elfquest. These early interests helped shape his unique creative style.

Starting His Own Comics

In 1991, Drew started publishing his own comic book series. This is known as self-publishing, where creators print and sell their own work. His first series was called I, Lusiphur.

He later changed the name of his comic series to Poison Elves with issue #8 in 1993. He continued to publish these comics himself until 1995. During this time, he was a great example of how artists could share their black-and-white comics directly with fans.

Working with Sirius Entertainment

In 1995, Drew Hayes partnered with Sirius Entertainment to publish Poison Elves. This allowed his comics to reach even more readers. He created many more issues, with the last one published in 2004.

Sirius Entertainment also released twelve Poison Elves paperback collections. They also published shorter series and special comics related to Poison Elves. Some of these were made by other creative teams.

Drew Hayes' Passing

Drew Hayes faced some health challenges that made it hard for him to create comics regularly. He had been in the hospital more than once. Sadly, he passed away at the age of 37 from a heart attack, while also dealing with pneumonia.
