Dubautia is a special group of flowering plants. They belong to the sunflower family, which is called Asteraceae. These plants were named after Joseph Eugène DuBaut. He was an officer in the French Navy who explored with Louis de Freycinet.
All Dubautia plants are endemic to Hawaii. This means they grow naturally only in Hawaii and nowhere else in the world. The Dubautia group has many different kinds of plants. These include small, low-growing cushion plants, medium-sized shrubs, tall trees, and even lianas (climbing vines).
Many Types of Dubautia Plants
The Dubautia genus has more species than other related plant groups in Hawaii. This shows how diverse and adaptable these plants are. Scientists have identified many different species and subspecies within this group.
