Duck Creek is a special area located in Garland, Texas, in the United States. It used to be made up of two separate areas that weren't officially part of a city, called "Old Duck Creek" and "New Duck Creek." These communities were found in the northeastern part of Dallas County.

Duck Creek is a place with a rich history, especially when it comes to schools. It's named after a nearby stream, also called Duck Creek, which flows into the larger Trinity River.

Early Schools in Duck Creek

Education was important to the people of Duck Creek from the very beginning.

  • 1852: The first schools were simple log cabins, starting with just one room, then expanding to two rooms.
  • 1880s: A bigger school called Duck Creek Academy was started. This school taught students of different ages and grades together.
  • 1899: The academy moved into a permanent building made of red brick. This building later became known as Duck Creek High School.

Central High School

  • 1936: A new school, Central High School, opened its doors to students.
  • 1946: Sadly, the building for Central High School was destroyed by a fire.
  • After the fire, a new, one-story building was built to replace the old school.
