Duck Island (Milford, Connecticut) facts for kids
Duck Island is one of two islands found in the Charles E. Wheeler Wildlife Management Area. This special area is located where the Housatonic River meets the sea. Duck Island is quite close to the land, about 100 feet (30 m) from Milford Point Road. You can find it near the Connecticut Audubon Society Coastal Center at Milford Point.
The island is not lived on by people. It is a protected area called a Department of Environmental Protection Natural Area Preserve. This means it's kept safe for nature. People can visit the island, but only when birds are not nesting there. The highest point on the island is about 16 feet (4.9 m) above sea level.
Duck Island is part of the City of Milford, Connecticut. The State of Connecticut owns and takes care of the island.
