Dudleya caespitosa is a cool succulent plant often called sea lettuce, sand lettuce, or coast dudleya. It's a special plant because it only grows in California, especially along the coastline in the southern part of the state.
What Does It Look Like?
This dudleya plant starts with a group of leaves shaped like a rose, called a rosette. This rosette can grow up to 20 centimeters (about 8 inches) wide. It usually has up to 30 leaves.
The leaves are thick and fleshy, like they store water. They are pale green and shaped like cones or long ovals. Each leaf is about one or two centimeters (less than an inch) wide and almost a centimeter thick.
The plant has a main stem, called a caudex, which grows straight up to about 20 centimeters tall. Then, it branches out to hold the flowers. This stem can be green, red, or yellow.
At the top of the stem is a tall flower stalk, called an inflorescence. This stalk can hold 10 to 15 bright yellow flowers on each of its branches. The flowers have pointed petals.
