The Duke of the Infantado (or Duque del Infantado in Spanish) is a special noble title in Spain. It was first given to Diego Hurtado de Mendoza y Figueroa on July 22, 1475. This important title was granted by the famous Spanish rulers, King Ferdinand II and Queen Isabella I, often called the Catholic Monarchs.
The Dukes of the Infantado family were very important throughout Spanish history. Many members of this family held high positions. For example, seven of them became knights in the Order of the Golden Fleece, which is a very old and respected group. One of the Dukes, the 13th Duke, even became the Prime Minister of Spain, leading the country's government!
The first Duke, Diego Hurtado de Mendoza, built a beautiful castle called the New Castle of Manzanares el Real. Later, the main home for the Dukes of the Infantado moved to the grand Palacio del Infantado in Guadalajara.

The Mendoza Family
The Mendoza family was the first to hold this important title.
- Diego Hurtado de Mendoza, 1st Duke of the Infantado (1415/7–1479)
- Íñigo López de Mendoza y Luna, 2nd Duke of the Infantado (1438–1500)
- Diego Hurtado de Mendoza, 3rd Duke of the Infantado (1461–1531), known as "The Great"
- Íñigo López de Mendoza, 4th Duke of the Infantado (1493–1566)
- Íñigo López de Mendoza y Mendoza, 5th Duke of the Infantado (1566–1601), who was the grandson of the 4th Duke.
- Ana de Mendoza y Enríquez de Cabrera, 6th Duchess of the Infantado (1554–1633), she married Juán Hurtado de Mendoza de la Vega y Luna.
- Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar Gómez de Sandoval y Mendoza, 7th Duke of the Infantado (1614–1657), he was also a Viceroy of Sicily, meaning he governed Sicily for the Spanish king.
- Catalina Gómez de Sandoval y Mendoza, 8th Duchess of the Infantado (1616–1686), she married Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar de Silva y Mendoza, the 4th Duke of Pastrana.
- Gregorio María de Silva y Mendoza, 9th Duke of the Infantado (1649–1693), he also held the titles of 5th Duke of Pastrana and 7th Duke of Lerma.
- Juan de Dios de Silva y Mendoza y Haro, 10th Duke of the Infantado (1672–1737), he was also the 6th Duke of Pastrana and 8th Duke of Lerma.
- María Francisca de Silva y Gutiérrez de los Ríos, 11th Duchess of the Infantado (1737–1770), she married the Marquis of Távara.
The Alba Family
After the Mendoza family, the title passed to members of the Alba family.
