Robert Duncan Coutts (born February 4, 1969) is a Canadian musician. He is best known as the bassist for the popular rock band Our Lady Peace. He has been a member of the band since 1995.
Duncan Coutts's Music Journey
Joining Our Lady Peace
Duncan Coutts officially joined Our Lady Peace on September 23, 1995. He became the band's bassist, taking over from Chris Eacrett. This happened after the band had already released their first album, called Naveed.
Even before he officially joined, Duncan was connected to the band. He was present in the studio when they recorded Naveed. He even appeared as an extra in the music video for their song "Starseed".
Before the Band
Before becoming a full-time musician, Duncan Coutts went to Ridley College. He also studied film at Ryerson University in Toronto. Later, he graduated from The University of Western Ontario in 1993.
While at the University of Western Ontario, he lived in the same building as Mike Turner. Mike Turner would later become a fellow band member in Our Lady Peace.
Duncan had a few different jobs before joining the band. He worked as a taxi driver in Whistler, British Columbia. He also worked as a set dresser for the TV show Due South.
Musical Talents
Besides playing the bass guitar, Duncan Coutts is a talented musician who can play other instruments. He can play keyboards and the cello. He also sings backup vocals for Our Lady Peace.
