Dungeness Nuclear Power Station facts for kids
The Dungeness nuclear power station is actually two different power stations. They are located in Dungeness, Kent, England. These stations use nuclear power to make electricity. One is called Dungeness A, and the other is Dungeness B.
What is Dungeness A?
Dungeness A was an older type of power station. It used a special kind of reactor called a Magnox reactor. This station started making power in 1965. After many years, it reached the end of its working life. Dungeness A is now closed and no longer makes electricity.
What is Dungeness B?
Dungeness B is a more modern power station. It uses a different type of reactor. This is called an advanced gas-cooled reactor (AGR). Dungeness B has two large reactors. Each one can make 615 megawatts of power. It started operating between 1983 and 1985. Dungeness B was the first AGR power station built for commercial use.
