Dunlapsville got its name from one of the very first people to settle there. This important early settler was a man named John Dunlap.

For many years, Dunlapsville had its own post office. This was a big deal because it helped people send and receive letters and packages. The post office first opened way back in 1818. It served the community for a long time, until it finally closed its doors in 1903.
