Dupont is a small, unincorporated community in the southeastern part of Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana, in the United States. An unincorporated community means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government.
You can find Dupont along Louisiana Highway 413. It's located just north of another community called Jarreau. Even though Dupont doesn't have its own post office, the people living there get their mail through the Jarreau Post Office nearby.
History of Dupont's Name
The story of how Dupont got its name is quite interesting! Back in 1902, some men from the area gathered near False River. They wanted to choose a name for a new post office that was going to open there.
They had trouble agreeing on a name that everyone liked. Finally, a man named Pierre Guidroz had an idea. He saw a box of Dupont shotgun shells nearby. He suggested they name the community "Dupont" after the brand.
The committee thought it was a good idea and decided on that name. The post office served the community for many years. However, after World War II ended, the Dupont post office eventually closed down.
