Dwayne Clinton Jones (born June 9, 1983) is an American basketball coach and former professional player. He is currently an assistant coach for the Saint Joseph's Hawks in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

Early Life and School

Dwayne Jones grew up in Chester, Pennsylvania, after being born in Morgantown, West Virginia. He finished high school at American Christian School in Aston, Pennsylvania, in 2001.

College Basketball Career

Dwayne Jones played college basketball for the Saint Joseph's Hawks. He was a very important player for the team, especially during the 2004 season. That year, the Hawks had an amazing undefeated regular season!

They earned a top spot in the NCAA Tournament and made it all the way to the Elite Eight. They were very close to reaching the Final Four, but another team scored a last-second shot. Saint Joseph's finished that season with an impressive 30 wins and only 2 losses, which was the best record in their school's history.

In the 2004–05 season, Jones was named the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year. He was also on the All-Defensive Team for the second year in a row. He was one of the best players in the country for rebounds and blocks. He led the Atlantic 10 conference in both of these areas.

Jones also received other awards, like being named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference 2nd Team. He had his best season for scoring, averaging 10.1 points per game, along with many rebounds and blocks.

On February 19, 2005, Dwayne Jones achieved a rare feat called a "triple-double." This means he had double-digit numbers in three different stats in one game: 11 points, 11 rebounds, and a career-high 10 blocks!

Professional Basketball Journey

After college, Dwayne Jones began his professional basketball career. He was not chosen in the NBA draft, but the Minnesota Timberwolves signed him in August 2005.

Starting in the D-League

Jones was sent to the NBA Development League (now called the G-League) to play for the Florida Flame. He was a standout player there, leading the league in rebounds per game. He also ranked third in the league for blocks.

Playing in the NBA

In January 2006, Jones was traded to the Boston Celtics. He played in 14 games for them during the 2005–06 NBA season. He had a career-high 13 rebounds in one game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Later, in October 2006, Jones was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He played in a few games for them during the 2006–07 season. He also spent some time in the D-League with the Albuquerque Thunderbirds, where he had an impressive game with 8 blocks.

During the 2007–08 season, Jones played in 56 games for the Cavaliers. He had a career-high 9 points and 12 rebounds in a game against the New Jersey Nets.

  • In April 2010, the Phoenix Suns signed him because they needed a strong rebounder. He was known as the top rebounder in the D-League at that time.
  • Jones also played in China for Fujian Xunxing in the 2010–11 season.
  • He continued his career playing in Puerto Rico for Indios de Mayagüez and again in China for Zhejiang Lions.
