Discovering Dykersburg
A Place with Two Names
Dykersburg has an interesting history with its name! It was also known as Absher for a while. This name came from William A. Absher, who was the very first postmaster there.
The post office in Dykersburg opened on July 27, 1892, under the name Absher. Then, on September 10, 1898, its name changed to Dykersburg. But just a few months later, on April 17, 1899, it changed back to Absher! The post office finally closed down on April 14, 1908. Today, people living in Dykersburg get their mail from the post office in nearby Stonefort.
