Eagle Island is a small island located in Queensland, Australia. It is part of the Lizard Island National Park. This island is found within the area known as Lizard, which is in the Shire of Cook. Eagle Island is about 2,000 kilometers (1,240 miles) north-west of Brisbane, a major city in Australia. It is also located south-west of a larger island called Lizard Island, which is about 270 kilometers (168 miles) north of Cairns.

Island Geography

Eagle Island is surrounded by a natural coral structure called the Eyrie Reef. A reef is like an underwater city built by tiny sea creatures called corals. These reefs provide homes and food for many different kinds of marine animals.

Protected Area Status

Eagle Island is part of the Lizard Island National Park. A national park is a special area of land or sea that is protected by the government. This helps to keep its natural beauty and wildlife safe. The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service manages this national park. They work to protect the plants, animals, and natural features of the park.

The waters around Eagle Island are also part of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. This is a very large protected area that covers much of the Great Barrier Reef. The Great Barrier Reef is the world's largest coral reef system. It is home to thousands of different species of fish, corals, and other marine life. The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority works with the Environmental Protection Agency to look after this important natural wonder. They make rules to protect the reef and its creatures.
