Discovering Eagle Village's Past
Eagle Village has a history that goes back many years. It was planned out by a man named William Miller, who was one of the first people to settle in this area.
How Eagle Village Was Founded
William Miller hired George L. Kinnard, a surveyor from Marion County, to help him design the town. A surveyor is someone who measures and maps land. They decided to name the new town Eagle Village, taking its name from Eagle Township.
The original plan for the town had 18 blocks and 108 lots. A lot is a piece of land.
The First Post Office
A post office was opened in Eagle Village on December 15, 1832. This was an important place for people to send and receive mail. William Miller was also the first postmaster, which means he was in charge of the post office. The post office stayed open until 1858.
Changes in Land Ownership
In 1836, William Miller sold his farm and the remaining unsold lots in Eagle Village. He sold them to Daniel Larimore. Daniel Larimore then added seven more lots to the town. These new lots stretched south along the west side of the Michigan Road.
