Earl is a small place in Wisconsin, United States. It's not a city or a town with its own government. Instead, it's called an unincorporated community. This means it's part of a larger area, the town of Springbrook.
Earl is found in Washburn County. You can find it where two main roads meet: U.S. Route 63 and County Highway E. It's about 8.5 miles (13.7 km) northeast of a bigger town called Spooner. A train track, the Wisconsin Great Northern Railroad, also goes right through Earl.
History
When Earl was first started, it had a different name. It was called Sinclair's Spur. This name came from H. L. Sinclair. He worked for a railroad company called the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis and Omaha Railroad. He was the agent for the railroad in a nearby place called Trego, Wisconsin.
The community got its current name, Earl, a bit later. This name was chosen to honor Earl McDill. He was a relative of the first person to be in charge of the post office there, John Whitney.
Earl's post office first opened its doors on August 30, 1905. It served the community for many years. However, the post office eventually closed down on July 1, 1984.
