The East Kilbride Alliance was a local political party. It was active only in the town of East Kilbride. It aimed to give local people a stronger voice. They wanted to influence how their town was run.
Why Was It Formed?
The party began because many local groups were unhappy. They were not pleased with how the South Lanarkshire Council was making decisions. People were especially worried about two things. They objected to the council selling off green spaces. They also disliked factories being built too close to homes.
How Did It Work?
The East Kilbride Alliance said they would be different. If their members were elected, they would not have a strict party rule. This means councillors could vote based on their own judgment. They would decide what was best for their local area. This was different from how many other political parties work.
Who Were the Candidates?
The party put forward six candidates in the local elections in 2007. These people hoped to become councillors. The candidates were Brian Jones, who was the leader of the party. The others were Colin McKay, Richard Naysmith, Iain Cameron, Tim Gingell, and Claire Keane.
In the 2012 local elections, the party had three candidates. They ran in different parts of East Kilbride. These areas were East Kilbride South, East Kilbride Central North, and East Kilbride West.
When Did It Stop?
The East Kilbride Alliance officially stopped being a political party. They de-registered with the Electoral Commission. This happened on September 13, 2012.
