The eastern lowland gorilla or Grauer's gorilla (Gorilla beringei graueri) is a type of eastern gorilla. It lives in the mountainous forests of the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.
This gorilla is the largest of all four gorilla types. It has shiny black fur, much like the mountain gorilla (Gorilla beringei beringei). However, its hair is shorter on its head and body. As male gorillas get older, their fur turns grey on their backs. This is why older males are called "silverbacks".
