The Eastfield Mall is a shopping center located in Springfield, Massachusetts. It is owned by Mountain Development Corporation. The mall first opened its doors in late 1967.

Over the years, many stores have been part of the mall. Big stores like JCPenney, Macy's, and Sears used to be the main attractions, also known as "anchor stores." However, these stores closed in 2011, 2016, and 2018. The movie theater, Cinemark, also closed in 2020.

History of Eastfield Mall

Eastfield Mall welcomed its first shoppers in 1967. It started with three large department stores. These were Forbes & Wallace, Steiger's, and Sears.

Changes to Main Stores

In 1975, Forbes & Wallace closed its doors. Later, JCPenney moved into that empty space.

Years later, in 1994, a store called Filene's opened. It took over the space that used to be Steiger's. Then, in 2006, Filene's changed its name to Macy's.

A big movie theater was added to the mall in 2000. It had 16 screens and was first known as Showcase Cinemas. Later, Cinemark took over the theater.

Mall Policies and New Stores

In 2006, a clothing store called Steve & Barry's opened. This made the mall completely full for the first time in many years. However, Steve & Barry's closed in 2008. After that, Hannoush Jewelers opened a store in the same spot in 2009.

In 2004, the mall started a special rule for younger visitors. If you were under 15 years old, you needed an adult with you after 5:00 PM. This was called a "teen escort policy."

Store Closures

The JCPenney store at the mall changed to an outlet store. It then closed completely in 2011.

On January 6, 2016, Macy's announced it would close its Eastfield Mall location. This was part of a plan to close many stores across the country. The Macy's store here closed in April 2016.

Then, on May 31, 2018, Sears announced its store would also close. It shut down on September 2, 2018. With Sears gone, the mall no longer had any of its original main anchor stores.

Finally, in late June 2020, the Cinemark movie theater closed for good.
