Eastpoint Mall is a popular shopping center located in Dundalk, Maryland. It's a great place to find many different stores, with 139 shops in total! The mall has several large main stores, called anchor stores. These include Value City Furniture, Burlington Coat Factory, Gabe's, and JCPenney. There are also two big spaces that used to be anchor stores but are now empty.

The mall's food court is a special place. It has even been a spot where older people who fought in World War II meet up to share memories.

Discover Eastpoint Mall's History

How the Mall Began

Eastpoint Mall started as a shopping center in 1956. Back then, it was an open-air area with stores like Hutzler's and Hochschild Kohn's. Imagine shopping outside, even in bad weather!

Becoming an Enclosed Mall

In the 1970s, something big happened. The shopping center was enclosed, meaning a roof was built over it. This turned it into the indoor mall we know today. This made shopping much more comfortable, no matter the weather!

Changes in Stores Over Time

Over the years, many stores have come and gone at Eastpoint Mall.

  • In 1974, JCPenney opened its doors, becoming a major part of the mall.
  • The Hutzler's store closed in 1984. Later, in 1991, this space was turned into the mall's food court, a place for everyone to grab a bite.
  • Around the same time, Sears also joined the mall as a big anchor store.
  • The old Hochschild Kohn's building was later split between Value City and Value City Furniture.
  • Another store called Ames was added. It later became Steve & Barry's.
  • Steve & Barry's closed in 2008. Its space was then used by two new stores, DSW and Shoppers World, which opened in 2010. DSW closed in early 2016.
  • On November 2, 2017, it was announced that Sears would be closing its store at Eastpoint Mall. The store finally closed in January 2018.

Eastpoint Mall has changed a lot since it first opened. It continues to be an important shopping spot for the community.
