A Historic Building in Chicago

The church building was first built in 1899. It was originally a synagogue, which is a Jewish house of worship. The synagogue was for a group called the Isaiah Temple congregation.

Who Designed This Building?

A famous architect named Dankmar Adler designed this beautiful building. He was known for his Neoclassical architecture style. Adler also worked with another famous architect, Louis Sullivan. Together, they designed many of Chicago's early skyscrapers. It's interesting to know that Dankmar Adler was the son of a rabbi, and he designed several other synagogues in Chicago.

A New Chapter for the Church

In the early 1900s, many African-American families moved into the neighborhood. This changed the community around the building. Because of these changes, the Isaiah Temple congregation sold the building in 1921.
