Who Was King Eboric?
Eboric was the son of King Miro and Queen Sisegutia. He was still a teenager when he became the ruler of Galicia. This was a kingdom located in what is now parts of Spain and Portugal. He took over the throne in the year 583.
Eboric's Short Reign
Eboric's time as king was very short. He ruled for only about one year. His mother, Queen Sisegutia, married again after King Miro died. Her new husband was a man named Audeca.
How Eboric Lost His Throne
Audeca wanted to be king himself. He removed Eboric from power in 584. Audeca sent the young Eboric to live in a monastery. A monastery is a place where monks live and dedicate their lives to religious practices. This meant Eboric could no longer be king.
The Visigothic Invasion
Eboric's removal from the throne had big consequences. The Visigoths were another powerful group of people who lived nearby. Their king, Leovigild, saw this as a chance to invade Galicia.
Why Leovigild Invaded Galicia
King Leovigild used Eboric's overthrow as a reason for war. He said that Audeca had no right to take the throne. Leovigild then led his army into Galicia. He defeated Audeca and took control of the kingdom. This ended the rule of the Suevi kings in Galicia.
