Eco-nationalism facts for kids
Eco-nationalism is an idea that combines caring for the environment with a strong love for one's country. It's about believing that a country should protect its own nature and use its own clean energy sources, rather than relying on other countries for energy. This idea suggests that a country's unique animals, plants, and natural places are a special part of its identity and culture.
Where Do We See Eco-nationalism?
Eco-nationalist ideas became important in the 1980s, especially in countries like Estonia, Lithuania, and Ukraine. At that time, these countries were seeking independence. Many people who supported independence also wanted to protect their natural environment. They were especially against nuclear energy and other forms of energy that they felt were harmful or controlled by outside forces.
This way of thinking connects a country's freedom and identity with its natural resources and environment. It's about saying, "Our land, our energy, our future!"
