Who Was Edd Gould?
Edd Gould was a creative person who loved to draw and animate. He brought joy to many people through his unique cartoons. His main project, Eddsworld, became a big hit online. It showed his funny and imaginative ideas. Edd's work continues to inspire animators and artists today.
Edd's Early Life and Friends
Edd Gould was born on October 28, 1988, in Isleworth, London. He grew up with his mother, Susan, and his siblings, Victoria and George. Edd went to Orleans Park School. There, he met Matt Hargreaves during a sports event.
At first, Edd didn't like Matt much. But they soon became good friends. Edd had a habit of drawing his friends into his comics. This is how Matt became a big part of Eddsworld. Even though Matt sometimes complained about his character getting into trouble, he loved being part of the show.
Edd also met Thomas Ridgewell (TomSka) and Tord Larsson online. They were fans of his early animations. They all became good friends. Soon, Tom and Tord also joined the cartoon cast of Eddsworld. They first appeared in the Eddsworld Christmas Special 2004.
Starting His Animation Journey
Edd began animating in 2002. He used a simple program to make GIF animations. He would share them on a website called Stick Figure Death Theatre. When that website stopped accepting GIFs, Edd learned a new program called Macromedia Flash in November 2002.
It took him about seven months to learn the basics of Flash animation. He had a mentor named Lavalle Lee who helped him. On June 6, 2003, Edd shared his first Flash animation on Newgrounds. This was a big step in his animation career.
Edd later studied animation at the University for the Creative Arts in Maidstone, England. He also joined a creative group called Cake Bomb, started by his friend TomSka. Edd even lent his voice to the "I Like Trains" kid in TomSka's asdfmovie series on YouTube. He also animated the second episode of asdfmovie.
His Legacy: Eddsworld and Beyond
Eddsworld became Edd's most famous creation. It was a series of short, funny animations. The characters were based on Edd and his real-life friends. The show was known for its unique humor and animation style.
Edd's creativity wasn't limited to Eddsworld. He also contributed to other online projects. His work brought laughter to millions of viewers around the world. He showed how much fun animation could be.
Remembering Edd
On April 16, 2011, Edd shared some sad news. He was diagnosed with a serious illness called acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, a type of cancer. He had been diagnosed with this illness before, in 2006. Edd made a video called "Edd vs Cancer" with his friends, talking about his health. Even while he was sick, Edd used his illness to create funny sketches with his friends.
Sadly, Edd passed away on March 25, 2012, due to an infection caused by his illness. His friends, TomSka and Matt, shared the news in a video on March 27, 2012. Edd's funeral was held on April 10, 2012. Fans and friends sent messages of comfort, which were shown at the funeral.
Edd's last Eddsworld episode, "Space Face (Part 1)", was released after his passing on June 2, 2012. Edd wanted his friends to continue Eddsworld. So, TomSka took over the production. Any extra money from the show went to CLIC Sargent. This charity helps children with cancer.
Edd was cremated after his funeral. In July 2012, Matt and TomSka scattered some of Edd's ashes in Hollywood, near the famous Hollywood Sign. This was a way to honor their friend and his amazing journey.
