Eddsworld is a British animated web series created by animator Edd Gould. It began on 15 December 2004 and quickly became very popular online. Viewers watched the cartoons on Newgrounds, DeviantArt, and YouTube. People also enjoyed finding episodes on Albino Blacksheep, Tumblr, and the BBC. The show features colorful artwork, wild slapstick adventures, and unusual jokes. History of Eddsworld Animation
Edd Gould began making funny computer cartoons as a teenager using digital animation software. He shared his creative work on artist websites like Newgrounds and DeviantArt. Soon, his work expanded onto YouTube, where it gained a massive audience. His channel became the most subscribed comedian channel in the United Kingdom. It was also the fourth most viewed comedy channel in the entire country.
The show gained attention outside regular cartoon websites too. Organizers for the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference noticed the series. They asked Gould to make a special cartoon about climate change. This educational animation was shown during the opening ceremony of the environmental conference.
The Legacy and Beyond Eras
After Edd Gould passed away in 2012, his good friend Thomas Ridgewell stepped up as showrunner. Ridgewell ran a crowdfunding drive called Eddsworld: Legacy to complete Gould's unfinished ideas. Skilled animators from all over the world joined together to animate these exciting episodes. Talented creators such as musician Yoav Landau, composer Todd Bryanton, and Kevin MacLeod provided memorable music. Support came from media groups like Rob DenBleyker and production teams at TurboPunch Ltd.
When the Legacy era concluded, friend Matt Hargreaves took charge with the help of Gould's family. On 1 January 2017, the website returned with official comic strips written by Hargreaves. In August 2020, a new phase named Eddsworld Beyond launched with fresh cartoon shorts. Later on, animator Andy Clift stepped up to guide the ongoing adventures. The official YouTube channel has reached over four million fans.
Matthew Hargreaves stepped down as director and showrunner for Eddsworld on October 2nd, 2026. Andy W. Clift has taken his place as director and showrunner.
The Silly Adventures of the Roommates
The stories follow four eccentric friends sharing a small house in London. Edd loves drawing art, telling jokes, and drinking cans of Coca-Cola. Tom is a grumpy friend who plays the bass guitar and often gets dragged into trouble. Matt is a silly, vain friend who loves his own handsome reflection. Tord is an adventurous tinkerer from Norway who loves fast machines and gadgets.
