Eddsworld is a popular British animated web series. It was created by Edd Gould using a computer program called Flash. The first episode premiered on December 15, 2004.

The series has been shared on many online platforms. These include Newgrounds, DeviantArt, YouTube, and an official website.

After Edd Gould passed away on March 25, 2012, Thomas Ridgewell took over the show. Thomas was the voice actor for the character Tom. He started a special fundraising effort called Eddsworld: Legacy to keep the show going.

Before the final episode of Eddsworld: Legacy was released, Thomas Ridgewell decided to step down. He handed control of the series to Matthew Hargreaves and Edd Gould's family. Matthew Hargreaves voices the character Matt. He is the last original member of the main group still working on the series.

On January 1, 2017, the Eddsworld website came back online. It featured new comics written and drawn by Matt Hargreaves. Then, on August 1, 2020, a new short episode called "Fan Service 2" was released. This marked the beginning of a new chapter for the show, known as Eddsworld Beyond. Matt Hargreaves is the showrunner for this era.

While Edd Gould used to draw and animate everything himself, the Legacy and Beyond eras involve a team of artists. These artists work together from all over the world. As of February 2023, the Eddsworld YouTube channel had more than 4 million subscribers.

Edd Gould's YouTube channel was very successful. At the time of his passing, it had the most subscribers in the comedian category for the United Kingdom. It was also the 4th most-watched comedian channel in the UK. The creators of the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference even noticed Eddsworld. They asked for an episode about climate change to be used in the conference's opening ceremony.

About Eddsworld

The Story

Eddsworld tells the funny stories of a group of young friends. They live together in a house somewhere in London. The main characters are:

• Edd: An artist who loves Coca-Cola and telling jokes. He often wears a green hoodie.
• Tom: A cynical character who often sees the negative side of things. He has no visible eyeballs and wears a blue hoodie.
• Matt: A self-centered and sometimes silly character. He wears a purple hoodie and a green overcoat.
• Tord: (Before he left the group) A Norwegian inventor who is good with gadgets. He wears a red hoodie.

The series usually has separate episodes. This means that events in one episode often don't directly affect the next. Characters might face big challenges or even seem to be defeated. However, they usually appear fine in the next episode, as if nothing happened. This was especially true in episodes before "Moving Targets."

Main Characters

The main characters of Eddsworld are fun, exaggerated versions of Edd Gould and his friends.

• Edd (voiced by Edd Gould [2004–2012], Tim Hautekiet [2012–2016], George Gould [2020–present]) – An adventurous artist who wears a green hoodie. He loves Coca-Cola and bacon, and often tells puns.
• Tom (voiced by Alex L'Abbé [2004], Thomas Ridgewell [2005–2016], Ed Templer [2021–present]) – A cynical bass guitarist with a blue hoodie. He has empty eye sockets. Tom often gets pulled into Edd's adventures, even if he protests. He had a rivalry with Tord and owns a bass guitar named Susan.
• Matt (voiced by Matt Hargreaves) – A self-obsessed and sometimes silly character. He wears a purple hoodie, a green overcoat, and has a distinct chin. He used to wear a black T-shirt with "I Heart M@" on it.
• Tord (voiced by Alex L'Abbé [2004–2005], Tord "Larsson" Welhaven [2005–2008], Jamie Spicer-Lewis [2016]) – A Norwegian inventor who wears a red hoodie. He is good with gadgets and has a rivalry with Tom. Tord dislikes the song "Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows". He moved away in "25ft Under the Seat" to follow his own interests. Tord later returned with a plan in "The End."

Supporting Characters

• Eduardo (voiced by Chris O'Neill [2010–2011], Brock Baker [2014–present]) – Edd's next-door neighbor and rival. He always tries to be better than Edd. Eduardo enjoys pointing out Edd's problems.
• Jon (voiced by Eddie Bowley [2010–2016]) – Eduardo's housemate and a counterpart to Tom. He is not very smart. Eduardo often treats him poorly for small reasons. Jon is shown to be defeated in "The End (Part 2)" during a battle.
• Mark (voiced by Ben Rudman) – Eduardo's housemate and a counterpart to Matt. Like his friends, he enjoys making fun of his neighbors' failures. After the events involving Jon, Mark comforts Eduardo during his sadness. How Mark survived "The End (Part 2)" is still a mystery.
• The Evil Director (voiced by Christopher Bingham) – A villainous film director. He tried to clone Edd and his friends to boost his film's sales in the episode "Spares." His assistant, Larry, often gets annoyed by his silly ideas.
• Zanta Claws (voiced by Josh Tomar) – A zombie Santa Claus who wants to ruin Christmas. He attacks anyone he sees as naughty. Edd and his friends are often his targets. He also has a disagreement with the current Santa Claus.
• Ell (voiced by Vicky Gould) – The female version of Edd.
• Tamara (voiced by Chloe Dungate [2015], Rachel Kiki [2020–present]) – The female version of Tom.
• Matilda (voiced by Alice Ann Stacey [2015], Jennifer Bingham [2020–present]) – The female version of Matt.
