Eddie Hughes was a talented point guard, which is a player who leads the team's offense and handles the ball. He was born in Greenville, Mississippi. Eddie played college basketball at Colorado State University from 1978 to 1982.
Joining the NBA
After college, Eddie was chosen in the 1982 NBA draft by the San Diego Clippers. This was in the seventh round of the draft.
His NBA playing career started in 1987 with the Utah Jazz. He played 11 games for them. During these games, he scored about 1.5 points and made 0.7 assists per game. An assist is when a player passes the ball to a teammate who then scores.
After playing for the Jazz, Eddie joined the Denver Nuggets. He played a total of 86 games with the Nuggets. His last NBA season was in 1989–90.
Playing in the CBA
Before and after his time in the NBA, Eddie Hughes also played in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). The CBA was a professional basketball league in the United States. He played in the CBA from 1982 to 1987, and again from 1990–91 and 1993–94. In 1984, he was recognized for his great defense. He was chosen for the CBA All-Defensive First Team. This means he was one of the best defensive players in the league that year.
