A Life in Business
Sir Edgar was a leader in the business world. He was the chairman of two major companies: C. T. Bowring and Co. and also Bowring Brothers. These companies were very important in Newfoundland's history.
Serving His Country
Sir Edgar also played a key role in politics. From 1918 to 1922, he was the very first High Commissioner for Newfoundland in the United Kingdom. A High Commissioner is like an ambassador, representing their country in another Commonwealth country. He held this important job again from 1933 to 1934.
Creating Bowring Park
One of Sir Edgar's most lasting contributions was creating Bowring Park in St. John's. This beautiful park is still a popular place today. He built the park in memory of his stepson, John Shannon Munn, and his step-grandchild, Betty Munn. They both sadly died when the ship SS Florizel sank in 1918. To remember them, he had a special statue of Peter Pan placed in the park.
Honors and Family
Sir Edgar was recognized for his contributions and was made a knight in 1915. This meant he could use the title "Sir." He married Flora Munn in 1888, and she passed away in 1939. They did not have any children.
