Edgemont was once a small community in Lassen County, California. Today, it is known as a "former settlement," meaning people no longer live there. It was also called Spoonville for a time.
Where Was Edgemont Located?
Edgemont was found in the state of California. It was about 5.5 miles (8.9 km) south-southwest of a place called Litchfield. The area was quite high up, at an elevation of 4032 feet (1229 meters).
The History of Edgemont's Names
The community originally had a post office that opened in 1903. This post office was named Spoonville. The name "Spoonville" was chosen to honor a person named Florella A. Spoon.
Later, in 1913, the name of the post office was changed to Edgemont. However, the post office did not stay open for very long after that. It officially closed its doors in 1918.
