What is Edinburgh Peak?
Edinburgh Peak is a mountain that reaches 902 meters (about 2,959 feet) into the sky. It's the highest point of a long, narrow chain of hills. This ridge stretches across the central part of Gough Island from its northwest to its southeast side. Another peak, called Expedition Peak, is nearby but not quite as tall.
Where is Gough Island?
Gough Island is a very isolated place in the South Atlantic Ocean. It's part of the Tristan da Cunha Archipelago, which is a group of islands. These islands are an overseas territory of the United Kingdom. This means they belong to the UK but are far away from it.
An Extinct Volcano
Edinburgh Peak is actually an extinct volcano. This means it's a volcano that scientists believe will never erupt again. Its last known eruption happened a very long time ago, about 2,400 years ago.
