Edmund Fowell was an English politician who lived a long time ago, from about 1598 to 1664. He was a Member of Parliament, which means he helped make laws for England in a group called the House of Commons.

Early Life and Learning

Edmund Fowell was born around 1598. His father was John Fowell from Plymouth. When Edmund was 18, he went to a special college called Broadgates Hall, Oxford at Oxford University. After that, he studied law and became a lawyer in 1625. This was called being "called to the bar" at a place called Middle Temple.

Being a Member of Parliament

Edmund Fowell was elected to Parliament several times. A Member of Parliament (MP) is someone chosen by people to represent them and help make decisions for the country.

First Time in Parliament

In 1646, Edmund Fowell became an MP for a town called Tavistock. He was part of a very important Parliament known as the Long Parliament.

A Short Break from Parliament

However, in 1648, something happened called "Pride's Purge". This meant that Edmund Fowell, along with many other MPs, was stopped from being a Member of Parliament for a while.

Back in Parliament

Later, in 1656, he was elected as an MP again, this time for Devon. He served in a group called the Second Protectorate Parliament. In 1659, he was elected MP for Tavistock once more, joining the Third Protectorate Parliament.

Final Time in Parliament

In 1660, Edmund Fowell was elected MP for Plymouth. This was for a special meeting called the Convention Parliament. He officially took his seat on April 27. However, he was replaced by another person, Samuel Trelawny, on June 9, 1660. After this, Edmund Fowell retired from politics.
