Edmund Lyndeck (born October 4, 1925 – died December 14, 2015) was an American actor and singer. He was famous for his roles in Broadway musicals. He played important characters like Judge Turpin in Sweeney Todd and Cinderella’s Father in Into the Woods. He also appeared in other well-known shows like 1776 and Merlin.

His Acting Career
Starting on Stage
Before becoming a full-time actor, Edmund Lyndeck was a college professor. He spent more than ten years acting in local and regional theaters. His first big break on Broadway was in the musical 1776. In this show, he played several different characters, including John Witherspoon and Stephen Hopkins.
Famous Broadway Roles
Lyndeck is best known for playing the mean Judge Turpin in the original Broadway show Sweeney Todd. This was a very important role, and he played it many times, even on tour and in a TV broadcast. His acting in this role earned him an award called the Drama-Logue Award.
After Sweeney Todd, he starred in another musical by the same composer, Stephen Sondheim. This show was Into the Woods. In it, he played Cinderella's Father and later the Mysterious Man. He also appeared in other Broadway shows like Mrs. Warren's Profession and A Doll's Life.
